Notes:

This American Red Cross Small Craft Safety program is delivered as a blended learning program. Students will complete a required online portion of the program prior to attending the in-person class time.

Some of the benefits of the blended learning delivery method include the following:

  • Equivalent to the traditional in-person courses
  • Online courses are completed prior to in-person training, maximizing time for in-water skills
  • Helps ensure consistent delivery of curriculum to all participants
  • Promotes an understanding of core concepts, reinforced by instructor and skills practice
  • Final written exams for each module are completed online

Certification Requirements:

  • Attend and participate in all class sessions
  • Demonstrate completion of all online lessons
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities
  • Complete written exams, correctly answering at least 80 percent of the questions in each exam

Certificate Issued and Validity Period:

Basic-level certificates are valid for 3 years.

Upon successful completion of the Small Craft Safety course, participants receive an American Red Cross certificate for Small Craft Safety with the applicable type of craft.

Prerequisites:
  • Be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course.
  • Successfully complete the precourse session.
